Carnegie Village Senior Living Resident Spotlight: Shirley & Mel
Shirley and Mel Roy love being part of our independent living community. They moved here six and a half years ago. The location in Belton, Missouri, is ideal for them because it is only 15 minutes away from one of their daughters.
Mel and Shirley share three children together – one son and two daughters. Family is important to them both, and they are all very close to each other.
What appealed to them most about Carnegie Village were the apartment size and the cost. Our apartment homes are spacious and equipped with the most modern conveniences. Our independent living residences are available on a month-to-month basis, something you won’t find everywhere.
Favorite Hobbies and Senior Living Activities.
Now that the couple has lived in their apartment home for a number of years, what they appreciate most about the Cass County community is that it allows them the freedom to do what they love to do. Shirley says they are also very fond of the people who reside here, and she loves participating in many of the daily activities.
Shirley is the embodiment of the “Energizer bunny. ” She just loves people and people love her. She describes herself as easy to talk to, faithful and always willing to pitch in and help.
She likes to join people who gather at our outdoor gardening beds, which were designed to be a community endeavor. Nourishing and amending the soil appeals to her, and she spends time making the gardens attractive and nutritious. She likes to encourage other people to be a part of the garden and join in growing the herbs and vegetables.
Social Needs Are Easily Met at Carnegie Village.
Anything to do with handcrafting appeals to Shirley as well. She can socialize while she sews, does needle crafts and knits. There are plenty of comfortable, open spaces to gather with neighbors or friends within our community.
Carnegie Village believes in honoring residents’ preferences and helping them maintain their independence. Here, you can live life on your own terms and stay as busy or relaxed as you want to be. From live music and educational speakers to fitness and art classes, residents can enjoy our full range of amenities and programs designed for all levels of senior living.
Making New Memories in a Premier Retirement Community.
Mel and Shirley have lived in Wyoming, Florida, Minnesota and Overland Park, Kansas. Mel was a minister for 42 years and Shirley was a nurse. One of their best memories is traveling together in a trailer for seven years.
The couple is the perfect example of the smart, friendly and active people who live here. If you’re thinking about moving to our maintenance-free community, we would love to introduce you to some of the inspiring residents who are enjoying life to the fullest.
