Carnegie Village Senior Living Resident Spotlight: Gil
Meet Carnegie Village resident Gil Pena. Gil has lived in our independent living community for almost a year now. He chose our community in Belton, Missouri upon his daughter’s recommendation. He was living in Arkansas, and she wanted him close to her, so she made all the arrangements. Our community has helped thousands of seniors transition smoothly to their new apartment homes and has resources to help you.
Life Before Retirement.
Gil had lived in Grandview, Missouri for 30 years; then moved south to Raymore, Missouri for 25 years; and finally lived a short time in Arkansas before moving to Carnegie Village. He was married for 62 years and has three girls and one boy. Before he retired at age 75, Gil was an electrical contractor and land developer. In fact, he donated about 20 acres of land to the city of Belton for road development.
Gil Likes the Atmosphere Here and How Clean the senior Community Is.
His favorite part of living in Carnegie Village is the professional team members who work here. He says the atmosphere, which was designed for seniors, is wonderful, and he loves how clean the entire community is.
He’s a member of Coronation Catholic Church. Hobbies include reading a variety of books, but he especially prefers Word War II books. Gil appreciates the library. With its huge fireplace and comfy nooks and crannies, it’s a popular spot for residents to quietly relax and peruse a good book. Gil also enjoys visiting with friends.
Loved His Career and Giving Back to Others.
Friends would describe the resident as loyal, loving, generous and giving. Gil says over the years he would go to the grocery store and pay it forward. He would pay for someone’s groceries who looked like they needed the assistance, and then he would hand them a few extra dollars as well. He was also very generous with past customers in his electrical work when they could not afford to pay him. He would tell the customer he was going to get his receipt book to write up the bill, but then he would drive away. He said he also did free work for older people.
We’re glad to have Gil as part of our Carnegie Village family. To find out more about our commitment to seniors, quality care and maintenance-free lifestyle, call 816-331-7848.
